The Woodlands Travel Guide
Welcome to The Woodlands!
Sparked by the growth of Houston, its neighbor to the south, The Woodlands has developed into a popular vacation spot. Located in the Pine Woods region, the area was pre-planned and built around a lush 24,000-acre (9712-ha) forest, of which nearly one-quarter is preserved for parks, green spaces and reserves. The surrounding land, including the forest, five golf courses and a 200-acre (81-ha) lake, gives visitors plenty of activities to enjoy, including hiking, golfing, biking, swimming, boating and fishing. The Woodlands' downtown core is most famous for Market Street, which is home to local shops, restaurants and other attractions. For live entertainment, visitors can check the schedule at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Theater, an outdoor performing arts center surrounded by forest. For a day of family fun, tour the engaging educational exhibits at The Woodlands Children's Museum.
